In Cedar Hill, a couple had set out on a trail in an area they have hiked for years. Their beloved dog, Diamond, not one to stay at home on the couch, accompanied them on their adventure. Along the way, the group discovered an old, abandoned cabin. The man peered through the windows on one side of the small shack, while his wife was opening the door on the other side. Suddenly he had heard a scream. Rushing to his wife’s side, he froze as he saw her standing within two feet of a rattlesnake coiled to strike.

In recent events, the staff of the 24 hour vet, the Dallas and Arlington-based I-20 Animal Medical Center has seen its share of cases regarding sick puppies whose treats were fed to them by their respective owners and caretakers. Throughout the last 5 years, the FDA has reported over 2000 complaints regarding illnesses found in dogs after eating chicken, duck and sweet potato jerky treats with a significant increase having occurred in 2012.

The winning veterinarian of this national contest will receive a $1,000 award to help cover treatment costs for animals in need. The aim of “My Vet’s The Best” as company founder Dr. Jack Stephens explains is “to recognize the passion, innovation and talents of veterinarians everywhere who make it their life’s purpose to provide high quality care to their patients.”
