Suellen

Female dog
Age: 6 1/2 Months
All Border Collie Rescue

Sex: Female Age: 6 ½ Months Coat: Tri Color Smooth Coat Weight: 23 Pounds Activity Level: Active Companion/Sport Competitor Good with other dogs: Yes

Story

Suellen, her mother, Vivian Leigh, a red and white Border Collie, and her six siblings were rescued by ABCR in April 2014 at around 7 weeks of age. Mom and pups were all given names of either characters or actors from the movie “Gone with the Wind.” Vivian, and Suellen’s siblings – Rhett, Butler, Tarleton, Carreen, Jory and Jonas, have all found their forever homes. Suellen is still looking for a family to call her own. While we know Vivian is a Border Collie, the breed of Suellen’s father remains a mystery. You may visit the 2014 section of our Alumni page to see pictures of Vivian and all of Suellen’s siblings. While most of the litter has Border Collie features, two of the seven puppies have short/stubbed tails. Suellen’s tail is long like her mother’s. Due to the looks, temperament, and the shorter tails of two of Suellen’s littermates, it has been suggested that there may have been an Australian Shepherd father, and possibly more than one father of this litter.

Temperament, Energy & Play

Suellen is a sweet and loving puppy with lots of energy. She is happy, cheerful, playful, and has a great time zooming around the large multi-acre yard of her foster home. As a typical Border Collie and “active companion” / “active competitor” level dog (vs. “companion” or “couch potato” energy levels), Suellen needs plenty of daily exercise. She runs fast, plays hard, jumps high, and is a climber. Suellen swims swiftly like a fish, loves to play with the water hose and in the water bucket, is learning to play fetch, and has even started retrieving toys in the water. Her energy and high drive makes Suellen an excellent candidate to train for agility, flyball, canine freestyle, dock-diving or other sports either competitively or just for fun! For a Border Collie (mix?) puppy, after she’s had an outlet for her energy, Suellen does calm down inside the house, kennels/crates well, and sleeps in her kennel throughout the night without issue. Border Collies and BC mixes can be just as calm and relaxed as any other breed when provided with enough and appropriate outlets for exercise and mental stimulation!

Cats & Children

Suellen’s ideal home should not have cats because she has a very high chase/prey drive and is not safe around them. She will also do best in a home with children who are age seven and up. Suellen is very friendly with kids of all ages, but because she does have so much energy, Suellen can be overwhelming to smaller children.

Training & Other Dogs

Suellen is very smart working on learning basic commands like “sit” and “down.” Thankfully she is very food and toy motivated. Suellen kennels/crates well on command, sleeps through the night in her kennel without issue and also eats her meals in her kennel. Suellen would love for her new owner to take her to a basic obedience class to learn how to work well together and as a bonding experience. She can easily jump/climb 5” fences (a great asset for agility dogs!) and has learned to dig under higher fences. Her ability to jump and climb is a great asset for agility courses, but should also be taken under consideration when thinking about the fences on your own property. Suellen gets along well with all of the personal and foster dogs in her foster home and loves to play with other dogs! She’d do great in a home with other dogs who love to play or as a single dog in a home with plenty of time to commit to her activity needs.

Adoption

Suellen is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She has no known health problems. Suellen’s adoption donation is $300. If you are interested in being her forever family, please go to the home page of our website and submit an adoption application. We get in many applications every day and try our best to respond to each one as quickly as possible. Sometimes this may be a week or more. Please be patient with us. After we review your application, a phone interview and standard home visit will be conducted. Then you will be approved to adopt from our rescue! Phoebe

Female dog
Age: 6-7 Years
All Border Collie Rescue

Age: 6-7 years Sex: Female Coat: Black and White, Roughcoat Weight: 45 lbs Activity Level: Companion Good with other dogs: Yes

I was found on the streets, lost and scared. A human picked me up and took me to an even scarier place called a shelter. I was terrified and shied away from all the people there. And that’s why I was to be euthanized. On my last day, the last hour, a human from AllBorderCollieRescue came and took me away from that dreadful place. I was so happy! I even came out of my shell and licked this stranger’s hand.

I now live with a foster family. And it’s a big one for a shy girl like me! I have 4 foster siblings (1 female and 3 male dogs) and one cat. I get along with all of them including the cat, but I really like my female foster sibling and foster mom the best. It took a couple of weeks for me to warm up to them. I know now I can trust them. I am very laid back. I prefer the quiet indoors. I absolutely love it when my foster mom scratches behind my ears and rubs my thick fur all over from head to tail! It makes me wiggle all over. She says I’m a very fuzzy dog, and I feel like a big teddy bear.

I’m not really interested in toys, I simply like to just hang out or even sleep on the big human bed! My favorite thing is getting TREATS! I love treats and yummy food. I get so excited, I stand on my hind legs begging for it.

I would love to have a forever home. I would do best in a less active household (children 5 yrs or older). It may take me a bit of time to warm up to you to build up trust. But once I do, you will find me at your side, licking your hand, my way of saying, “I love you.”

I am housebroken, have been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you are interested in giving me a second chance, please go to www.allbordercollierescue.com to fill out an application.

Mallie

Female dog
Age: 6-8 Years
All Border Collie Rescue

Sex: Female Age: 6 – 8 Years Coat: Black & White Rough Coat Weight: 56 Pounds Activity Level: Active Companion/Companion Good with other dogs: Yes

Mallie is a sweet girl that shows obvious signs of a rough past life. This girl was rescued from an animal shelter just hours before being euthanized. She had severe hair loss due to a flea allergy and scabs all over her body from scratching. Her skin is all cleared up now and the hair is slowly coming back in. She has damage to her top & bottom incisor teeth but thankfully this does not affect her eating or playing ball.

Mallie is a very social girl that loves attention. She has no problem approaching new people to ask to be petted or for a belly rub. While Mallie has never met a stranger, she does take a while to warm up to new dogs. Mallie is much more of a people dog than a playmate for another dog. She completely ignores the other dogs in her foster home and prefers to follow her foster mom around rather than play chase with the other dogs. Mallie does better with dogs that respect her personal space so she would be a better fit for an older or more low-key dog.

Mallie definitely does not act her age when it comes to ball time. She loves to play fetch and will pick up the ball and throw it at you if you aren’t paying attention to her. She recently discovered squeaky toys and this is by far her favorite thing to play with! She loves the water and will dive right in after a ball or Frisbee! Mallie’s foster mom feels she has been trained at some point in her life as she knows several commands including sit, stay, load up, get the ball, drop it, go potty, down, etc. Mallie is a very smart girl and a quick learner. She is very eager to please her people and only has to be told “no” once in order to stop doing something she is not supposed to. Mallie is very protective of her loved ones and alerts her family anytime she feels something is out of the ordinary.

Mallie is up to date on shots, spayed, and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl, e-mail her foster mom at jenn_aggie00@yahoo.com or complete an adoption application. A home visit and adoption donation of $300 are required to adopt Mallie.

Bossier - Special Treasure

Male dog
Age: 4-5 Years
All Border Collie Rescue

Sex: Male Age: 4 – 5 Years Coat: Black & White Rough Coat Weight: 48 Pounds Activity Level: Active Companion Good with other dogs: Yes

Background:

ABCR rescued Bossier from Bossier City Louisiana in June 2014. He was is so sweet, loving, and smart that we couldn’t say no to his sad yet hopeful eyes which still sparkled with the wonderful life his body must have once known. Clearly, from his pleasant demeanor and skills, at some point in his life, Bossier had been loved and well trained. Later he fell on hard times because when he came into our care, Bossier’s coat was not healthy and he was somewhat underweight. Thankfully, with the love and care of his new foster home, high quality food and nutritional supplements, his coat is slowly growing back in and he continues to put on some weight. Bossier has now undergone heartworm treatment and for his safety is being reintroduced to exercise, much too slowly for his eager attitude, of course! Now Bossier is looking for his forever home with a family who will love him and treat him with the dignity and respect which he deserves. Bossier has been diagnosed with a heart murmur. He is not showing any symptoms of heart disease and does not require any special treatment, diet or medication. His heart murmur may never require any attention but it is possible that he may require a special diet or medication in the future.

Looks & Temperament:

Bossier is your typical black and white Border Collie. He has a black face mask with black ears and a white muzzle. He also sports a typical white fur collar around his neck. His coat is a work in progress but its luster will come back in time. He’s still a handsome gent! We know Bossier was someone’s best friend at one point because someone trained him very well. Whatever happened to him, he doesn’t hold a grudge toward humans. He loves to be petted and will gladly take a seat right in your lap! Bossier is one of the sweetest, most easy going and eager to please dogs we have come across. He wants nothing more than to be loved on, catch tennis balls in the air, play fetch and also starting to catch Frisbees! Bossier is a very happy boy who is extremely friendly. He is very submissive to other dogs and gets along with them but usually focuses more on the people in his foster home. He is always looking for the next ball to be thrown!

Cats & Children:

Bossier has not been tested with cats or children during his time with ABCR. Other Dogs & Play: Because of his very submissive nature, Bossier would do best in a home as an only dog or in a home with canine friends who do not try to dominate him or are otherwise dog aggressive. He has some minor learned helplessness and his fear response is (thankfully) not to fight or aggress back, but rather to shut down, make himself small and “take it.” Bossier is happy, however, to spend time with other dogs who are good-natured and do not boss him around!

Training:

Bossier came to ABCR with a tennis ball in his mouth, knowing how to catch it in the air and loving more than anything to do that, and to play fetch until your arm is sore! He’ll bring it right back to you every time, drop it at your feet, and if you are not quick enough to pick it up, he will nose the ball closer to you to make sure you see it and realize he wants you to throw it again! Because Bossier did recently undergo heartworm treatment and was forced to have limited activity for several weeks, we are slowly re-introducing him to activity and gradually increasing it in slow increments, making him take rest breaks while he rebuilds his stamina. Bossier is very smart and has fabulous recall. He learned his name in two days and kennels without fuss on command (“go get in your kennel” or “Bossier, kennel!”). Bossier also already knew “sit,” “shake,” “lay down,” “drop it,” “ball,” and “go find a ball/go get your ball,” He eats in his kennel, and sleeps there all night without a fuss.

Adoption:

Bossier is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Bossier’s adoption donation is $200. If you are interested in being his forever family, please go to the home page of our website and submit an adoption application. We get in many applications every day and try our best to respond to each one as quickly as possible. Sometimes this may be a week or more. Please be patient with us. After we review your application, a phone interview and standard home visit will be conducted. Then you will be approved to adopt from our rescue! Atticus

Male dog
Age: 18 Months
All Border Collie Rescue

Sex: Male Age: 15 Months Coat: Black Rough Coat Weight: 50 Pounds Activity Level: Active Companion Good with other dogs: Yes

Background:

ABCR rescued Atticus’ mother, Trixie, who we believe to be a pure bred Border Collie in 2013. On May 27 of last year, after nine hours of labor, Trixie finished birthing nine fluffy, mostly black, puppies on the bed of one of our foster parents! When we took the litter of pups to the Houston World Series of Dog Shows in 2013, we took several of the puppies from Trixie’s litter to the booth of a Newfoundland dog rescue group. The volunteers at that rescue inspected our puppies and thought it was very plausible that their father was a Newfie! Atticus has the looks and some of the characteristics of that breed to back it up, too. While all of his siblings have found their forever homes, Atticus is still looking for his own perfect family.

Looks & Temperament:

Atticus is fluffy and handsome. His fur is almost completely black except for a small patch of white on his chest and stomach. He is a very happy boy, extremely friendly, and has lots of energy. Atticus seems to get along with other dogs most of the time but in a home packed with foster brothers and sisters, things can get crazy sometimes.

Cats & Children:

Atticus has not been tested with cats or children.

Other Dogs & Play:

Atticus would do great in a family with another dog or as only dog. His current foster home has many other dogs of all sizes, ages, and genders, and he seems happy to have dog friends. As an active companion, daily walks/runs and sometimes dog park time are a must. Very importantly to him, though, Atticus would love it if you would take him swimming as much as possible! We believe this is one of his Newfoundland characteristics. Atticus loves to swim, and he swims like a fish. He is a lucky boy to currently have several ponds on the ranch where he is being fostered and would love it if his forever home had access to a pond, lake, or dog park with a water feature that he can play in.

Training:

Atticus knows “sit,” “down,” and “drop it.” He likes to play fetch and will retrieve tennis balls on land or in the water! Atticus kennels very well and is working on becoming a good leash-walker. He eats and sleeps in his kennel without a fuss.

Adoption:

Atticus is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He has no known health problems. Atticus’ adoption donation is $300. Contact us about Atticus today!

Dr. Welch is amazing. She has a very calming nature, just what I needed when my Lhasa Apso was injured by a pit bull. She clearly explained everything in an understandable way. She also checked in with us (while we were there) to let us know what was going on. Thank you very much!

Kristin Rush says...

The staff was wonderful and you can tell that they are real animal lovers. They were very thorough when checking out my dog and I didn’t feel at all like Jack was “just another dog”. They genuinely cared and explained everything very well. Loved them

I have recommended I-20 to friends due to the compassionate and wonderful service we have received. Thank you for everything you have done for us. The doctors are wonderful as well as the techs and the rest of the staff. Thank you

The service was amazing! I came in as a referral for a critical condition. I was extremely upset and concerned about my pet’s life. The staff quickly attended to us making efforts to stabilize Sebastian and provide me with a quiet and calm area. I really appreciated the service I received

We very much appreciate the skill and training you have and it was very evident in the procedures you performed on our dogs. Each of them had issues, some serious, and each of them are much better now, thanks to you and your staff.

Maryann Livengood says....

The staff was extremely concerned and courteous- Dr. Stinson saved my cat's life! Also pricing extremely reasonable for a 24-hr care facility.

Paula Emmons says....

I-20 Animal Medical Center is amazing!! All the doctors, technicians and staff are the best. We had to take one of our dogs in for an emergency and everyone who helped us was great with our dog and with us. They encouraged us to call when we had to leave him and always answered and updated us on how he was doing through the nigh (even with many calls in a very short amount of time). The next morning Dr. Welch called and said that they had found something. She told us that Mikey was not going to make it and let us have hours to say goodbye. They answered all our questions and never once made us feel like we were imposing on her or her time. We have found a new clinic for all our dogs because of Dr. Welch and all the staff

Save A Mexican Mutt Rescue says...

I would like to thank the staff of I-20 for a great experience with one of our rescue dogs, Cuervo. Shortly after his rescue, we realized he had a broken canine tooth that would require a root canal. For sure we were not going to find a veterinary dentist in Mexico. So, I-20 Animal Medical Center came to the rescue! Dr. Bonnie Bloom and Dr. Ken Karger took great care of Cuervo upon our arrival. The staff at I-20 is always so friendly, professional, and socially in tune to rescue.

Jim and Kay Marshall say...

Excellent Care! I highly recommend you to our friends. Thanks to all the staff, especially Dr. Welch - we have a healthy dog once again. The love you and the girls showered on Rainey showed me how much you all love animals.

Janice Bunting with Tye says...

Our vet Dr. Litsey, referred us to you when Tye needed special boarding. We were very pleased with his care. We also really appreciated the staff's willingness to talk with us every time we called the ICU to check on him. It made it so much easier to be away from him. He came home a healthier and spunkier dog. Dr. Long was great with Tye and felt she took very good care to properly diagnose his condition and treatment.

Dave and Pamela Reitzel say….

“Cutie was a stray. When I took Cutie to I-20 Animal they were concerned for her health, and made arrangements to see her the next day. I-20 Animal set me at ease about Cutie after her exam. Now knowing that she is and was in good hands, I-20 Animal will be where I will take both my pets. VERY IMPRESSED!!.”

Nancy Schultz says…

“The doctor called the next day to check on Sophie and was genuinely interested in how she was doing. Very well done”

James Jacobs says...

“Huge thanks to the staff and doctors for the excellent care that Sasha received. The explanations about her care and pricing were first class. Thank you once again”

J. Headland says...

I cannot say enough how great Dr. Stinson and the staff were with Dirk and explaining the procedures. We have found a "new" place that I feel confident will take care of and actually care about Dirk. I have and will continue to tell our firends, family and co-workers how much we love I-20 Animal Medical Center.

LaTonya Thomas says...

"Shasha get's excited every time we exit the freeway to come to the I-20 Animal Clinic. Everyone there is so friendly and concerned about my pet's well being. Thank you all for such outstanding service."

J. Beed says...

"I just wanted to say thanks for your help yesterday! Mr. Fluffers had a great time getting his shots and I actually think he wanted to go back instead of driving home! :) Lauren and Kimberly were great! I'm sure Mr. Fluffers hopes to see them when he gets his booster in a few weeks. Thanks again!"
